Taking Down Tobacco at Grants HS

Hello, my name is Chris Harris from Grants High School where I am a junior.  I have been a part of Evolvement for two years. One of the campaigns I work on in Evolvement is 24/7 which is advocating for schools to be tobacco free 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

The most memorable thing I did for 24/7 was take down tobacco day at my school’s lunch. For the event, my Evolvement team set up a table and had a fun game where you stood behind a line on the ground and threw ping pong balls into the cups. This game was to help bring people to the table to take the surveys and learn facts about smoking. We collected surveys for the 24/7 to better understand the tobacco and nicotine environment at our school.

We should have tobacco free schools because it will help save lives from second hand smoke getting all the chemicals in your body that aren’t good for you. Also, we can help people to stop smoking or starting to use nicotine products in the first place. Oftentimes, school is where people get their tobacco products from and they don’t think that it is not bad for them. I hope with 24/7 we can make a difference in schools.
