Advocating for a Healthier School: Strengthening Tobacco-Free Policies at Arrowhead Park

My name is Saim Iqbal, and I am a freshman at Arrowhead Park Early College High School. This is my first year participating in Evolvement, and I was thrilled to attend a meeting with our principal. Together with my partner, Paiuma, we had a great opportunity to talk about key issues concerning our school and its future in the Las Cruces Public Schools district.

In the meeting, Paiuma and I concentrated on talking about an effective nicotine-free policy and its advantages for students. We highlighted the need to create a safe and healthy school environment, free from the risks associated with nicotine and tobacco. The principal was open to our suggestions and participated in a productive discussion about enhancing these policies. We also explored the future of our school and the actions we could take to promote a lasting tobacco-free atmosphere. Our conversation covered possible initiatives, awareness campaigns, and strategies to engage more students in backing the policy.

This experience was significant as it gave us the chance to actively support a healthier school environment. I realized that our voices as students are important and that we can create real change through our actions. The meeting highlighted the value of the 24/7 campaign in maintaining safe, tobacco-free schools. I hope our conversation results in better policies and increased awareness efforts moving forward. Participating in this meeting with Paiuma has inspired me to remain engaged and keep advocating for positive change in my school and community.
