School by School, District by District by Kyana Brady

My name is Kyana, I am in 10th grade. I go to Rio Rancho High School. I have been in Evolvement for almost a year now. With the 24/7 campaign, we advocate for tobacco free schools 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This means no tobacco use for students, staff, and visitors.

Most of the events I have done are for 24/7, I have done a school board meeting with Rio Rancho Public Schools District, and also their health board.

I believe that people should care about keeping the schools 100% tobacco free because schools should be a place that feels safe, free from distractions, and focused. As high school students, I don’t think we should have to worry about smoking/vaping in bathrooms and missing class because someone is smoking tobacco or nicotine products and sets off the fire alarms. The use of tobacco can have a huge impact on students’ lives. 90% of students of tobacco and nicotine users start before the age of 18 years old. New Mexico’s youth and students deserve tobacco free learning environments and the 24/7 campaign is working to achieve this across the state. School by school, district by district 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
