Finding Kindness and Generosity in Serving the Community

Hello, my name is Brittany Romero. I live in Mora, New Mexico. I am a sophomore at Mora High School. This is my first year in Evolvement. This year has been a bad time for many people, but I distracted myself with Evolvement and giving back to my community. One thing I learned during this year is that Evolvement cares about the community and the people in that community. Evolvement works to make New Mexico schools truly tobacco-free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As a student in this program, I met with my principal about tobacco-free schools. Now it might sound kind of nerve racking, but as I prepared with a fellow Evolver, we got to learn what it means to this program. We both talked about the reason why we were there, what it meant to us, and how it could help others. The principal was kind and understanding. He listened to us, and he was even thankful that we could take the time to meet with him about this program. At first I was kind of nervous, but during the meeting I felt confident. I was prepared and happy I could discuss this with the principal.

When I first came into Evolvement, I wasn’t sure about the program, but the people in this program helped me figure out how it worked. They were kind and generous. They even gave me ideas to earn points for prizes. They make this program fun, exciting, and challenging. I think it’s good to be challenged about the right things. This program is one of those things. Evolvement not only helps but encourages others too. I believe this meeting helped my principal, school, and the community better understand that this program and the people that care about the community are tobacco-free 24/7.
